By Terry R. Nye VINE VOICE on January 7, 2014 Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? ) I have been shaving with a double edged razor for quite some time now. Over this time period I have used various razors made by Merkur, Parker, and Edwin Jagger. Each has had it drawbacks and benefits, so I was anxious to give this Baxter of California razor a try. This Baxter razor is manufactured in Germany and arrives nicely packaged in a decorative black box. Included is a small package of Derby razor blades. Having used Derby blades for shaving I can say that these are nice blades to include with a new razor. The razor is relatively short and stubby compared with my Merkur and Parker razors (it is about 1/2 inch shorter in length). It has a nice chrome appearance, seems to have a quality build to it, and the handle, which is quite thick and heavy, has good texturing on it to maintain a secure grip while shaving. The neck of the handle is tapered so it hangs well in my chrome shaving brush and razor stand. The razor disassembles easily for cleaning and blade replacement, and the screws are longer than ones on other razors. The head stays screwed in place well while shaving. If you had asked me previously what the most important factor was in getting a close shave I would have said the blade. This Baxter of California razor proves me wrong. Yes, a sharp blade is important, but I took a cheap 2-day old Shark chromium blade out of my Merkur razor and used it in the Baxter razor for comparison purposes. I lathered up with my usual shaving soap with a brush. Even with a used, cheap blade I got a much closer shave with the Baxter razor than I have obtained with my other razors previously. I suspect it has to do with the way the razor aligns the blade to its edge guide so you can get a close shave without nicks and gouges. I'm very impressed.Read more › Comment 16 people found this helpful. Was this review helpful to you?

For The Ladies!
By KDMask VINE VOICE January 10, 2014
By KDMask VINE VOICE on January 10, 2014 Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? ) Ok, ladies, I decided to try this razor out because I was tired of disposable ones that get dull so quickly, I throw them out one after another. This is a beautiful razor, very smooth and sleek. The handle is sturdy. It's shorter so it doesn't feel bulky while using it. The straight edged blades were fantastic. The head moved very well and I didn't have any trouble around my ankles. I used it with lathering body wash and had no problem at all. This razor comes in a beautiful box. It's a keeper, or would make a great gift for a friend or your man. Comment 17 people found this helpful. Was this review helpful to you?

Are you always in a hurrylike me or have more time than the "average bear" to shave?
By Momma Mary January 15, 2014
By Momma Mary on January 15, 2014 Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? ) I am older (mid 50's) and got this to see if the razor of my youth was better than the modern multi-blade razors. I tried this razor to see if I liked it more than the others. The instructions advised that showering first helps soften up the facial hair so I did that. I used regular shaving cream from a can as that's the only type I have.I was very careful and took my time. At first I thought the handle might be slippery if you had wet hands but that was not a problem. Once I got used to the correct angle shaving wasn't much of a problem. It does give a close shave but you have to take your time.I had a couple of nicks when I tried to hurry a bit. I'm not sure yet as to the life expectancy of the blade as I am still using it with no problems. I was told once that the reason blades get dull is that you leave them wet and they start to corrode on the cutting edge. If you dried the blades thoroughly after EACH use they would last a LOT longer. .... too much work for me....I'm always in a hurry it seems...... (*One guy online says he has been using the same blade for over 10 years by drying it thoroughly after each use!!) Wow, what discipline! Overall this is a very good close shaving razor. But if you tend to be in a rush when shaving this might not be for you. I will still use it until the blades are used up to see if it is just because I am a bit rusty with the old style razor, I did not get 1 nick the second time I used it!! ;-) but it still took me longer than the new razors do.Read more › 5 Comments 13 people found this helpful. You get your moneys worth here.
By Donald C. Roberts November 17, 2014
By Donald C. Roberts on November 17, 2014 Verified Purchase I finally shaved the Baxter Razor today and it gave me an extremely close shave with a Personna blade. It reminds a lot of the Muhle 89. Just glide it along, don't press and you will get an outstanding shave. It's a little on the aggressive side like a Muhle but just let it do it's thing. I love this razor but my go to razor is the Merkur Progress. But, it's in one of my razor holders which I rotate from. Great product and American made. I haven't tried any of their skin care products since I have my own favorite soaps, creams, etc. Comment 4 people found this helpful. Was this review helpful to you?
