After several years of giving myself "buzz-cuts" I decided to go for a quality set of clippers. I had been using one of those kits which included all of the plastic guards etc. which fell in the $30 price range at Target. There is NO comparison. The Oster Classic 76 is the "Cadillac" of clippers. From the moment you turn them on, you can tell by the smoothness and power of the motor that you have stepped up to top quality clippers. They come with a [1] blade and a [000] blade. I purchased a [0000] which is great for real close shaves or fades. I'm confident these will last for years since I'm using them at home and not in a shop. I would definitely buy this brand again !

As a fifteen year vet of the industry, I suppose I have the chops to weigh this pretty decent. Pros- Heavy- duty clipper...with proper care, this thing will outlast that car in your driveway...no kidding. Mows through the thickest, toughest hair effortlessly. Clipper blades are interchangeable...meaning...if you invest in the metal blades in different sizes, your cuts will be much more polished, fades look immaculate. If you can't do the metal blades, then there are plastic options. Keep in mind they won't cut nearly as clean, but nice for beginners. Cons- Heavy duty is great if you have the hand size and the wrist power to use it ALL DAY. I am a woman with small hands and I can't get my fingers all the way around it...thus it can be cumbersome after a while. The noise...imagine an electric hedge trimmer....seriously. I still get remarks about it at work! For beginning stylists...beware...it can get away from you fast. Peel and half peel are what it does best...it takes MUCH practice to fine tune your results. Overall it is a solid piece of professional equipment. A true standard prized by barbers and stylists alike. Enjoy!

A professional grade clipper to last a lifetime. If you're ready to step up from the cheap disposables most people try to get by with, the Classic 76 is worth considering. All of the parts are serviceable and replaceable meaning it will be around for a long time. That said... these are huge clippers - and whether you can adjust to that or not, the size is still less than ideal. There are other models, from Oster and others, in this same price range that might be more appropriate for the average person.

I was looking for a good quality clipper to be able to give myself my own haircuts. I did my research, and settled on this one. These clippers work very well, very smooth, effortless trimming. The housing is plastic, but does feel beefy, and hope to get many years out of it. However, there were three things that prevented me from giving a 5 star rating. First, the instruction manual that comes with clipper is very poor. If you never used a clipper (like myself) it can very very itimidating on your first use. How to attach blades, and how to maintain the clipper, is not very well explained in the manual. Luckily, there is a Youtube video the Oster company put out, that I would recommend to anyone who plans to buy and use this clipper. Secondly, the clipper does run a little hot on the handle where you grip it, after a few minutes of use. The video said this is usually due to a lack of lubrication. I lubricated mine the best I could, there's a little ball port on the side that your supposed to use to lubricate the motor, It seems like a very poor design to me, and could be improved. It doesn't feel like I getting much of the lubricant (provided) into the tool. Lastly, the 2 blades in comes with are for if you want you hair either bald or very, very short. I prefer the length of a #2 size blade, which is available, but will set you back another $25 or so, sold separately.

Ideal for the Self-Buzzer

This little gizmo is heavy and expensive. IMO it is also worth every cent. I've had it for ~~ three weeks, used it several times with the "000" blade set and oh, what an improvement over the 'other' brand/motor type of clipper. As a self-buzzer for nearly 20 years, if I live but one more year, this clipper will essentially pay for itself. Five Stars is appropriate here, for a genuine, professional quality machine. The only better one that I'm aware of is essentially the same machine in a metal case. If there is a minor downside, I think Oster ought to allow one to pick one or two blades at purchase, rather than packing it with the "000" and "OA" types. For my purposes the "000" is OK, but I'll have to buy the "00000" before long. For any committed self-cutter, this IS the machine of choice. Tip: Keep it clean and well oiled. If the blades are lightly oiled after every use, they should cut one or two heads virtually forever. 06-18-2014 Update: I still love this clipper and I use it regularly. Once one obtains the correct blade head, 0000 for me, sadly not included in the original kit, it as close to ideal as once can get. A few have noted (complained?) the it gets too warm. It is a simple, rotary motor and some heat is expected. It is not designed for continuous use, but regular, periodic use. Professionals would be pleased with this clipper and for this self-cutter, it is ideal. One tip if I may: Keep it clean, well oiled and rig a large rubber band to hold the blade guard in place. If you drop it, don't screw around - just buy a new blade. I'm critical and Five Star reviews are rare. This Oster clipper is worth five, IMO. Hope that helps.
