Good for Beginners

I read through a number of reviews and articles and concluded that Dovo was the brand of razor to buy. As I was aware of from the start, it's been somewhat difficult starting out in that I'm not yet able to get a really close shave. It also took some time figuring out the best way to handle the razor, but all of this I'm sure is common for all straight razors. This particular one is certainly made quite well as it feels and looks solid. I've been using a Fromm strop (also from amazon.com) and I do think that's helping. I'm also glad I went with the 5/8" blade rather than a longer one as I think that would make it too difficult to shave with. Despite still getting used the straight razor experience, I have to say I definitely enjoy it, and I am glad to have this razor to guide me through the experience. 7 Comments 85 people found this helpful. Least expensive GOOD straight razor on Amazon.com!

Hall on December 28, 2011 Color: Black Verified Purchase If you are just getting into straigt razor shaving, do yourself a favor and wait until you can afford at least this quality level of razor. This is the least expensive GOOD razor on Amazon.com as of this writing. Fromm makes good razors, but the ones on Amazon.com at the moment that are less expensive than this Dovo are not their good ones and the reviews attest to this. This Dovo, however, is incredible quality for the money. I attest to the fact that it is "shave-ready" right out of the box. It's not the best shave you will get with this razor, but it will give you a decent shave. I tested it on dry skin and it shaved it just fine, just not extremely comfortably. However, I very quickly honed it on a Norton 8000 grit waterstone, stropped it on my Fromm Razor Strop 2 1/2" X 23", and got a fantastic shave from it. I was looking at this for a travel razor (don't attempt to carry these on an airplane; it has to be checked, unfortunately), now I'm not so sure I want to chance losing it. I'll either stick to a double-edge for travel or commit to having to spend another $80 if I lose it! Beautiful blade

This is a high quality blade and lightweight, durable construction. Since it is new, it did require honing and stropping, but that's no big deal after the fiasco with the Kriegar. It was ready to shave with in approximately thirty minutes. I have never had a better shave. I am VERY pleased with this purchase and intend to order from this seller again in the very near future!
