Finally, a Shaver That Shaves Close and is Easy to Clean
By G. J. Reiser on July 31, 2013
About 30 years ago I switched from Norelco shavers to Braun, only because the Braun would run much longer on a battery charge. I was on my way to Siberia for a diplomatic mission and I had no idea if I was going to have an electrical outlet suitable for the battery charger. My only complaint with the old Norelco shavers, is that they were a pain in the rear to clean. It seems that as I grow older (now 82) my light beard has decided to change directions to the point that the Braun did not do a very good job of shaving. I always had to do a touch up with a blade razor to finish the job. I also had to deal with ingrown hairs under my chin. After my very first shave, with the Norelco AT875, I had a baby butt smooth face that took me about one half the time to accomplish. The Norelco is very quiet, to the point where you may wonder if it is even running, but rest assured that it does a great job with very little fuss. Cleaning could not be easier. The head is hinged so when you release a little latch, the head swings open and you place it under hot running water. I had a bit of trepidation when I first did this because it does not seem right to hold an electrical device under water. However, it does a great job of cleaning the head with very little fuss. I do leave the head open until it dries out. The instructions advise not to wipe with tissue to avoid clogging the head with small tissue fibers. The bottom line is that I am very pleased with this shaver and would buy another in a heart beat. It is much lower in price, compared to a new Braun, and for me, does a much better job of shaving. So far, it has been running for several days on the first charge and they promise 50 minutes on a charge. That will take me into next month, since it now takes me far less than 5 minutes to shave.Read more ›

Works Fine for Me
By Chessnut on May 28, 2013
This razor shaves better than my Braun ever did, much closer without leaving obstinate stragglers behind. Too, it's a very quiet razor. Lasts me about 4 weeks before recharging is needed, I do have a face of light whiskers, though. Heavy bearded guys may experience this razor differently.

Excellent shaver - way better than the Norelco 3D series

The Norelco AT875 delivers a fine shave. It's easy to clean/maintain and charges quickly. The AT875 is way better than Norelco's 3D series. The AT875 daily cleaning is rinsing under tap water for a few seconds. The 3D manual calls for rinsing for "a few minutes" under hot water, a waste of time, water and energy. The monthly cleaning for the AT875 and the 3D both is removing the cutters and combs for cleaning with the supplied brush. The AT875 has a single hinge and a single retainer to access these parts. The 3D has six hinges and three retainers = likely downstream maintenance issue. Also in the cleaning realm, the 3D series has optional jet clean system = extra cost, hassle and additional waste of time when compared to the AT875. The 3D manual also calls for annual replacement of the entire shaver head assembly. How crazy is that? I owned a 3D for less than a week. Once I cleaned it a few times and reviewed the manual, I returned it and ordered the AT875. Bottom line: Buy and enjoy the AT875.
