I have kept my razor clean, changed heads, and conditioned its battery well, so everything else had been working great. After replacing the old worn-out original head frame, my razor is good as new. Resurrected my old razor!

At that point, its head frame had loosened to the point that the grooves between the heads was pinching my face. Since i felt like I had gotten my money's worth, I bought the newer model of the Speed XL. The new model had an extra pivot action below the head frame so the head frames were not interchangeable. Unfortunately, the battery life for the newer Speed XL was lousy. After 1 year, it would only run when plugged in; after another year, it would no longer turn on, even when plugged in. Figuring I got a lemon, I bought another of the newer Speed XLs. This one's battery life was worse: battery died in about 11 months and stopped entirely after 1 month of running off the charger. Meanwhile, my original 8100-series XL battery was still running 3+ years after its last charge! The price for the replacement part was a little steep (~$20) for what this is, but about what I expected to pay. My old XL is back to shaving me like a champ!
