The handy pop-up trimmer included in this Panasonic shaver for men adds the perfect finish and detail to sideburns, mustaches and beards, and a LED in the sure-grip handle shows battery status, charge indicator and a cleaning and replacement reminder for blades and foil. Cleaning your Panasonic electric razor is quick and simple. Just rinse the shaving machine under running water and let the shaver's sonic vibration mode easily remove stubborn gel and stubble, leaving the Arc5 blades and foil fresh. And for shaving and grooming away from home, this men's electric razor comes with universal voltage, AC adaptor/charger and a travel pouch.

Beats my Braun and 4-blade Panasonic LA63
By Dean! on October 6, 2011
This 5-blade Panasonic LV61 shaver is like the Rolls-Royce of shavers, it's definitely pricey, but what a fine fine cutting instrument. How does it compare to a Braun Pulsonic (model 9595/790cc)? ============================================================ I had a Braun Pulsonic many, many years ago when they first came out and indeed that is a great shaver with a really long battery life. It had this "sterilizing" charger, but you had to routinely buy the alcohol-based cleaning-solution packs. The trimmer had a long reach and the ergonomics were spot on. The travel case was a chintsy, opaque plastic hard-case with a cleaning comb. I always thought the "sterilizing" charger was a bit overrated --- you don't need it, if you're only recharging it once every 2-3 weeks anyways, what good does sterilizing it that one time really offer? Frankly though, I've used electric razors some 25 years, well before these "sterilizing" gizmos came out... How does it compare to the 4-blade Panasonic LA63? ==================================================== The 4-blade LA63 feels slightly heavier and top-heavy. Though mine still works great, it feels cheaper in quality from grip to aesthetics. The button to turn on the shaver is "chrome-plastic-coated" and has worn off to reveal some white-plastic. The trimmer is fairly short and does not give you the reach the Braun does. If you're holding a mirror and trying to get the fuzz on the back of your neck, it's pretty difficult; much easier with my old Braun. [Update 10-8-11: I went and did the 'balance it on your finger trick" and the LA63 will not balance even with my finger near the very end, it is very top-heavy.Read more ›

Fantastic shaver.
By William E. Liberatore on September 23, 2011
First off... I got this shaver through the amazon vine program so I didn't buy it. Right now amazon shows this shaver selling for $499.99. I am a 41 year old Italian guy... so I have a thick, dark beard. Most of my adult life I've had to alternate between electric and blade shaving. If I go blade too many days in a row I get razor burn and if I would go electric too many days in a row it just wouldn't get it all and would look very sloppy. A few years ago I bought a Braun for a little less than half the cost of this razor and I have been very happy with the job it does. I can use the electric every day and it does the job nicely. Is it as "close as a blade"? No, but it is close enough that I'm happy with it. Now, the Panasonic... Is it better than the Braun? Honestly, I have to say, yes it is. I still don't think that the Panasonic is as close as a good blade shave, but it is close enough that you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference and honestly if my beard weren't so thick I'm thinking it would be as close as a blade. It also doesn't require the "cleaning solution" that I've been using with the Braun. The Panasonic is very easy to clean using a little bit of hand soap and a "cleaning cycle". It charges very quickly and seems to run a fairly long time on a charge. I've used it 3 mornings now and still showing 100%. This is truly a fantastic example of modern technology. Is it enough better than the Braun to justify twice the price..... I don't think so. I couldn't justify spending that much more on a shaver. I didn't like dropping $225 for one, but that was the difference between having to blade shave 2 to 3 times a week and being able to go "all electric". If money isn't an object though, there is no contest between the two.Read more ›

Finally - An Electric That Shaves As Close As A Blade
By Peter Suslock on May 3, 2013
I'll caveat this review by saying when it comes to shaving I'm a fanatic and perhaps a bit too compulsive. A fan of wet shaving with shave brush, high quality creams and straight edge razors. However it's incredibly time consuming. As I'm a head shaver as well using a straight blade is literally a "Bloody mess" not to mention impossible - unless I liked looking like a Zombie from a George Romero Movie, not a good look. All high end electrics have their pros and cons and of course what works well for one has poor results for another - hence gentlemen, the seemingly endless search for a great, comfortable and close shave. Before I dive into the Panasonic ES-LV61 here for whatever it's worth is a quick run down on my electrics: Braun 790cc - Hands down was the best electric razor I ever used. What made the Pulsonic line rock was the cutter block and foil. The unique cutting foil had what seemed an arbitrary array of different punch outs, half moons, octagons, stars , triangles and the like. There was a method to the madness as it lifted virtually every hair no matter how short or how difficult. Add the crazy sharp blades and center "lifting strip" and you had yourself the best electric for head shaving - at any price. When Proctor & Gamble bought out Braun, they scrapped the patented cutting block and foil and replaced it with a genereic that's awful - just take a look at the reviews both on and off Amazon. Panasonic ES-LA63-S Nanotech 4-Blade - Great for face shaving, the 30 degree "Arc" in the blades and foils work extremely well. My experience was this razor was terrible for head shaving.Read more ›
