Verified Purchase I have never been a fan of electric shavers. I've always gotten horrible razor burn, and they always leave stubble that is irritating. I bought this shaver because it was on sale, and I had just spent way too much money on razor blades and shaving cream, and I'm tired of it. I let my beard grow for about a week to torture test the razor, because, why not? I shaved dry, with no cream or prep. Have to say, I am thoroughly impressed. Battery life is great, shave was close and comfortable, with no razor burn at all. Cleaning was simple, take off the cassette, and shake it out. I never leave product reviews, but I felt this shaver was owed a review. I'll have to see how it holds up in the long run, but if you're on the fence, get this shaver. This is coming from a guy who hates electric shavers. Comment 28 people found this helpful. Was this review helpful to you? Yes No Sending feedback...

By Growing up I was always told by the men in my family that my facial hair was too thick for electric shavers. After exclusively using the reusables from Schick and Gillette for many years, I tried a hand me down electric shaver for the first time and had virtually no success with it and soon abandoned it. Fast forward 8 years to when I received Braun Series 3 3040 Wet and Dry Shaver from Braun and I was skeptical to say the least.

After carefully reading the instructions, I decided to dive right in and take it for a test drive. My first shave was completely dry and here’s what I took away from the experience: Positives 1. It provided a very, very close shave. In my opinion nearly on par with using blades but the difference was negligible. 2. Didn’t need any shaving cream. If mainly using it dry, then in the long run this could save time and money without sacrificing quality when it comes to getting a good shave. 3. Captures all of the hair well. Most of the time when I rinse out the blades in my sink and shake/tap the razor, I get hair all over the sink. Not the case with the Braun. 4. Not that I recommend doing this but in a pinch, I could see using this while on the go for my morning commute in order to save time. 5. It was very easy to clean and maintain. I’m obsessive about taking care of my belongings, especially anything electric and the simplicity of the Braun shaver really made things easy even for someone like myself who might overcomplicate things. Negatives 1. Requires some patience. I find myself stretching my skin out a little bit more and making sure it is taut in order to reach some spots especially around my throat. 2. In some instances I needed multiple passes over the same area to get a close shave.Read more › Comment 63 people found this helpful. Was this review helpful to you? Yes No Sending feedback...

Verified Purchase Background: I have tried 4, 5 blade razors and double edge blades in a good quality Merkur razor. I have a medium to tough beard. With blades it was always difficult to get a close shave without razor burn and/or nicks. So I started shaving every other day and in the shower to minimize the discomfort. I also tried all kinds of shaving creams and a badger brush. If I shaved every day it was uncomfortable and if I waited 3 days shaving got tougher. This review: I got the Braun 3040 on Sunday and shaved a 3 day beard on Monday morning. I got a shave as close or closer than with my blades. No razor burn or blood. Then I shaved the next two days with a 1 day beard and got the same results. Finally I shaved a 2 day beard and the same results. The Braun 3 3040 gives me a close shave and without the blood or razor burn. I recommend this as a good foil shaver. Conditions: I shave in the morning before washing my face (I have not tried the wet shaving alternative), then wash my face and apply lotion. Follow the instructions and try to shave against the grain. The goal is to get the hair to come up and into the foil. You may have to go back an forth a bit in difficult spots. Occasionally I run into a single tough hair that is laying flat and just won't cut. I just lightly get that with my four blade razor, no problem. It takes me about 5 minutes to finish my face and neck, but the shave is as close or closer than a blade. If you go over a spot too much like the first time I tried to get the one hair that would not come up, you can get a little bit of redness there. I would have like to try the series 7 but could not justify spending 2.5 times on a razor that may be a bit better? Maybe someday. If anything changes with the razor to make me unhappy I will update. If no update then I am still happy with it. Comment 12 people found this helpful. Was this review helpful to you? Yes No Sending feedback...
