Finally an Electric that can Power Through Tough Beards

I have a thick beard and shaving has always been a chore for me. I've tried all forms of electric razors over the years in an effort to get a faster and more convenient shave; however, I never stuck with one for very long since they didn't shave close enough, or left stray hairs behind. This Waterflex from Braun is the closest thing I have found to a "blade shave" while also having the added convenience of speed and portability that electrics provide. I was given this shaver for free from Braun via (BzzAgent) and I've been using it for about three weeks now. In the past, if I was using an electric it meant that I had to shave with it every single day in order to keep the hairs short enough for the electric shaver to be effective (both foil and disk types). This is not the case with the Braun Waterflex. I am able to skip a day, and the Waterflex is still able to power through the longer stubble. If I go longer than two days between shaves I will still have to revert to a blade to get a smooth shave, but this Waterflex electric has definitely exceeded my expectations in its ability to power through more than a day's worth of thick growth and provide a smooth shave. I think this is mostly due to the cutter head having a unique trimmer in the middle of the foil heads (hard to explain, but see the photos I included). I was initially concerned that the trimmer extension was a bit flimsy and would not hold up; however, the trimmer works very well and I have yet to have any issues with it. I like that fact that it extends in one easy motion with your thumb, but only time will tell if it will hold up for the long-haul. Great, for the stubbly man.

I tried out the Braun WaterFlex Wet Dry Shaver for free thanks to Braun and was definitely excited to give it a try. After using it for three weeks, I decided I had enough information to write my review. I have used electric shavers in the past, and have never been impressed. However immediately I was struck by the swivel head design of this shaver. Another added bonus was the light weight design of this razor. I used the waterflex both in and out of the shower, and found I got better results when wet. I had to shave longer when using the shaver dry, and occasionally got a little tug. The rubber design also makes it super easy to hold while in the shower, which is an added bonus. The pop up sideburn trim is the easiest I've ever used on an electric razor. And neither left me with any razor burn. What might be the downside of this razor is it likely won't ever give you a super close shave. You won't ever feel as smooth as a baby's behind after using this, and to achieve that would still need to use your regular razor. However, the rustic cattle driver five'o'clock shadow is easily attained and maintained with this razor. I have to say that I have not been impressed with the battery life. Generally I find that I need to charge it every other day, even though I only use it briefly. It still works well for daily use however. Also, cleaning the razor seems to be a bit of a hassle with many pieces to reassemble after a thorough cleaning.

Thanks to Braun for letting me try this for free! My hair is about average in terms of being coarse or fine, I don't grow hair quickly but after about a day or two the wife suddenly starts to avoid kissing me... weird. I have a rotary shaver and a multi-blade razor (Braun as well, and Gillette, respectively) so I feel I have a pretty good base for comparison. When I used it over the first two weeks I'd switch off between the rotary (with new blades) and the Waterflex, avoiding the multi-blade for the time being. The Waterflex not only cut closer and more smoothly, but I didn't really have any irritation, whereas the rotary with new blades still 'grabbed' the hair some of the time which caused a lot of irritation. Since then I've completely stopped using the rotary. Hard to compare to a multi-blade razor, they will always get closer and cut more smoothly, but this shaver is REALLY close to a multi-blade. If it's more of a 'complete' shave that you are looking for, an electric shaver just isn't for you, more than likely. In my experience, electric shavers just can't quite get those few random strands of hair under parts of my chin or on my side burns like a regular razor can. But, in a pinch, this thing can get you about 95% of the way there, with the remaining 5% not really being noticeable unless touched. Small side notes specifically about this shaver: -Works great wet or dry. -Battery life phenomenal. -The grip for your hand(s) is very comfortable. -The 3-part shaving system (two foils and the middle... thingy) work together extremely well, you can tell they paid attention to what they were doing. -The trimming tool on the back is very precise. All in all, a great shaver (wet OR dry), but I just can't rate it 5 stars since I can't get a FULL shave from it. Definitely better than any rotary shaver I've ever used (3 total, in varying price ranges), but it simply can't beat multi-blade razors.
