The scuttle allows you to heat the brush while you are showering or just washing your face. Then it lets you develop your lather in a warm environment and keep it warm throughout your shave. When the scuttle outer container is filled with water it is heavy enough to allow you to develop more lather with just one hand. That beats an apothecary/shaving mug.
