Don't even think about it, just buy this razor! I have used Braun and many other brand name electric razors in the past but Panasonic has them all beat hands down. This is my second Panasonic electric razor and the only reason I purchased a second was to hand down the first razor to my son. The battey seams to last forever and the blades are second to none. Closest, most comfortable shave available with out using a razor blade and no bloody cuts to worry about. No, I am NOT affiliated with Panasonic at all. I am just an older gent that thinks they make an excellent electric razor so I am giving them a big thumbs up! I am the type of man that would tell the world about a crappy item so I also have to tell it like it is when I find a excellent product. By the way the cheapest place I found it was at Amazon.com

I purchased this after reading a number of "Best Electric Razor" shootouts on tech and electronic blogs. It frequently came in the runner up position, but hear me out - this deserves the number on position. But first, let me tell you the good: -Great close shave, no pulling or irritation -Shave dry OR wet; this also means cleaning is a breeze: run under the faucet and it's clean! -LED display shows shave time remaining -Standards are there: pivot or locked head options, trimmer Now, one of the things that is supposedly in the "CONS" column is that it doesn't have a base stand/charger/auto cleaner. One "Gizmo" blog says that your razor deserves more than just laying on the counter - I say this is absurd! I don't need an extra piece of plastic and overpriced cleaning solution. The Arc 4 is a true wet/dry and allows you to clean by turning it to the ultrasonic setting and running under water. It is as simple as can be and then it goes right back in the drawer or cabinet. Supposedly others have better charge times, but 45 mins per charge is plenty. Most shaves are only a couple of minutes. In summation: Great value, close shave, wet/dry and easy cleaning put it over the edge. Buy and enjoy.

I had been shaving my head and face with a Gillette fusion for 5 plus years when I decided to try an electric. I bought a norelco pt720 at Walmart for $40. It always sounded like it was about to run out of batteries but it did an okay job. For the first three weeks it didn't come close to the closeness of a razor but, on the advice of a friend, I stuck it out to "let my hair get used to it.". (PLEASE NOTE!!! Before you slam an electric razor on here, you absolutely HAVE to do this step. If you dont, you'll NEVER get the results you are hoping for). It did improve and came close but I could always feel a tiny amount of stubble when I ran my hand against the grain. Based on other reviews I decided to invest in this more expensive shaver. This is the one! After my first shave, I was amazed that I felt NO stubble, no matter how hard I rubbed my hand against the grain. I couldn't tell the difference between this and my $4-a-blade fusion. This thing's motor sounds like a Dremel tool on 10 (ie. It's Super fast) I wont miss the mess, inconvenience, and nicks of a razor. This thing will pay for itself. You wont be disappointed.

This is my 3rd attempt at trying out electric razors, and I believe the old saying "You get what you pay for" is as applicable to this as any product. In my previous two tries, I went with economically safe choices. The first was a Norelco rotary razor, and a few years later tried a Braun foil shaver. Both were about $30. Both had a tendency to just yank longer whiskers off my face, and the blades got dull in a really short time, making shaving extremely uncomfortable. The blades were very expensive, so eventually I just shoved the razors in a drawer and went back to blades. This time, I decided to try a higher-end razor, and it has definitely made a difference. The key to buying a good razor is RPM's, RPM's, and RPM's! The higher, the better! This foil razor was about $140, and is by far the best one I've ever used. Plus this one is a wet-dry razor, so I can use it in the shower for a warm, wet shave, which I prefer far more than a dry shave. But if I'm in a hurry, it also provides a good close shave using it dry and on the go, too. The blades are also a good quality, as I've had the razor for over a year now, and the blades still shave closely and comfortably. The only negative I see is that water does seem to get inside. I can see water when I tap the razor on the bathroom counter, so I know there's water trapped inside somewhere. This can't be a good thing for the internal components. But, so far so good.

I own and have used the Panasonic ES8243A for the past two years. This shaver has a similar profile but does a better job. It leaves less stubble and requires fewer passes over the same area. The trimmer is more robust and easier to use in either direction. After two weeks of every other day use I have had to charge it only once. The plastic cover comes off easily and does not take the head with it as it does on the ES8243A. Though this is suggested as a face shaver I have used it on my shoulders and upper back to great effect - better then devices designed for this purpose. I cannot imagine a better more efficient shaver.
