By I had been using a competitor's trimmer for several years with mixed results, and a few mishaps due to the comb slipping and cutting shorter than I had wished. Recently, I was given the opportunity to try the Braun Beard Trimmer BT5050, and after it's first use I knew the old trimmer was going in the trash.
I had been using a competitor's trimmer for several years with mixed results, and a few mishaps due to the comb slipping and cutting shorter than I had wished. Recently, I was given the opportunity to try the Braun Beard Trimmer BT5050, and after it's first use I knew the old trimmer was going in the trash. This is a simple, powerful and sturdy portable beard trimmer that will perform as advertised. The first, and my personal favorite feature that I noticed was the locking precision dial on the close trim comb for short facial hair. This dial allows precise length adjustment, and a locking feature that ensures you will never have a mishap resulting from a slipping comb. The long length comb attachment does not feature this high precision dial, but it does have a lock of it's own that will allow you to trim with confidence. This unit is waterproof, for easy cleaning, and clearly marked for effortless operation. It is primarily a plastic build, aside from the steel blades. This plastic is very sturdy, and does not feel cheap or flimsy by any means. Because the unit will primarily be used around and in conjunction with water, the heavy use of this plastic material is very welcome. The battery packs plenty of power. It has never slowed down under heavy use through thick facial hair, and after 5 weeks of regular use, I still haven't had to charge it. Charging is also a simple procedure with this unit. Just plug the included cable in to an AC outlet and the trimmer. The light at the bottom near the logo will be a solid bright green when the battery is fully charged. This trimmer comes with 1 short, locking precision dial comb attachment, 1 long locking comb attachment, 1 cleaning brush, 1 oil bottle and a convenient travel bag for on the go use.Read more › Comment 3 people found this helpful. I was in the market for a new trimmer and the BT5050 caught my eye. Let me start from the beginning: Packaging/What's in the Box: Everything comes neatly boxed and is easy to remove (unlike some packages that come close to causing bodily harm and significant levels of frustration). Unit comes with a carrying case, the beard trimming head with adjustment dial, a hair trimmer attachment, power cord, cleaning brush, and lubricating oil) Charging/Preparation for Use: I allowed the unit to charge overnight. While it charged, I practiced using the dial on the beard trimmer and adjusting the hair trimmer. The detachable "combs" are great! the come on and off very easily and are quite innovative in design. First Use: (Beard) I had 7 days worth of un-even growth. I set the unit on a short setting and went to town. Felt great in the hand, high quality and well shaped. Comb felt really good on face. The design really protects your skin from the cutting head (both front and back) Unit did a great job creating an even 5 o'clock shadow look First Use: (Sideburns/side of head) I switched to the hair trimming comb and proceeded to clean up sideburn and the lower side of my head. Perfect even cut was achieved with very minimal effort. Clean-Up: I removed the trimming comb and used the included brush to remove clippings. Really nice that you don't have to snap off the blade.... No nooks and crannies to contend with when cleaning (like my last trimer)...great German engineering! Overall Impression: I'm a tough customer. Tend to do a lot of research before i buy anything. When i found out that Braun was willing to send this unit to me for trial I was cautiously optimistic. Well this not only met my expectations it vastly exceeded them.
