By Style Name: Gift Set - Razor and Refill Blades Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
Style Name: Gift Set - Razor and Refill Blades Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? ) My husband was eager to give these a try - he has used Schick razors in the past and likes them but generally doesn't buy them because they are not cheap. This one gave a really nice smooth, close shave - the 5 blades really makes a difference, he didn't have to keep going over the same areas multiple times to get all of the hair. The blades cleaned quickly and easily with a rinse under the faucet. His face was super soft and smooth afterwards - something we both enjoyed. =) The only thing he doesn't like (other than the price) is the flip-up trimmer, but only because he doesn't use it, so for him it's just a wasted piece. Overall a really nice razor, we'll be keeping an eye out for sales and coupons to stock up since they are a bit pricey. Comment One person found this helpful. Was this review helpful to you? By Style Name: Gift Set - Razor and Refill Blades Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
Style Name: Gift Set - Razor and Refill Blades Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? ) I had the opportunity to put the Schick Hydro 5 up against the Gillette Fusion ProGlide (without power). Rather than switching back and forth between them, I chose to do 6 shaves with the Gillette and then 6 shaves with the Schick over the course of 3 or 4 weeks. Fortunately, I don't have to shave every day anymore. The Schick Hydro 5 did a good job, but for me the Gillette Fusion ProGlide was clearly better. That being said, you might find the Schick is better for you. If you're looking for a new "shaving system," the Schick Hydro 5 is certainly worth a try. It gives a good shave with minimal friction. I found that I could get a decent shave without having to do too many multiple passes over areas already done. That really cuts down on irritation. The shaving stroke was smooth and effective--just not as smooth and effective as with the Gillette Fusion ProGlide. That took fewer strokes and gave a smoother, closer shave. The Schick claims to offer an advantage with its "hydrating gel reservoir" instead of a lubricating strip. I felt the smoothing effects of the gel, but I didn't find it to be more effective than the lubricating strip on the ProGlide. In fact, sometimes I noticed strings of lubricating gel stretching off the blade as I pulled the razor away from my face at the end of a stroke. It made me more aware that there was some chemical gel being applied to my face, and it sort of reminded me of the gooey saliva of the creature in the "Aliens" movies. I didn't find the flip trimmer to be especially helpful on either the Schick or the Gillette. They're equally effective, which is not very much, in getting the little hairs under my nose or in straightening the sideburn edge.Read more › Comment Was this review helpful to you? By Style Name: Gift Set - Razor and Refill Blades Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
Style Name: Gift Set - Razor and Refill Blades Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? ) I've been using the disposable versions of this razor (Schick Hydro 5 Disposable Razors for Men Our Best Disposable Shaving Razor - 3 Count) for the last year or so and I'm very pleased with those. This cartridge version seems to deliver the same close, comfortable shave but with the addition of a more substantial ergonomic handle. It has a nice heft and is comfortable in the hand more so than the lightweight plastic-feeling disposables. I'm pretty sure that the business end--the actual cutter--is the same. Both have the "flip up" trimmer which I find very useful to even out sideburns and for the area right under my nose. I get about 30 shaves from each disposable, and so far I've got about 10 shaves on the first cartridge and it looks like it will last for the same amount of time. By the way, a trick I learned many years ago for preserving the sharpness of the razor's blade is to dry it after each use. I just draw the head sideways across my towel after I've rinsed it. Corrosion and rust are the enemies of the blade and drying it helps to extend its life. Once you own the handle, you'll buy just the cartridges which, at their current price of $11.50 for 4, will cost you almost the same 3 bucks apiece as the disposables referenced above! Since you're getting 5 cartridges here, it means that the handle costs you about $10 (Based on the current Gift Set price of $26.50). If you feel that Schick should give you the handle for free, then go with the disposables--you'll get the same excellent shave. But if you like the heftier feel of the permanent handle and don't mind paying for it just once, then this Starter Set is a good option. Comment Was this review helpful to you?
