I love this razor.
By J. David Evans on December 27, 2010
I started using this razor while working with Philips on an unrelated project -- I was given one for use and comparison with a blade. I used a Norelco Triple header in the 80's and liked that, and then used a later version to get that "stubble look." But for the past 10+ years I've used a blade: I liked the closeness, but was definitely in the market for something "nick proof." As I've gotten older (I'm now just past 50) it's gotten easier to nick myself (probably because I'm generally in a hurry...) My first experience with the SensoTouch 3d was flying home from Amsterdam, shaving on the plane as we got near New York. I'd never have tried this with a blade, and as a frequent traveler I love that I can shave quickly and easily on the plane. The shave? Every bit as close as my blade, and actually better since I can zero right in on little spots that the blade wither missed ... or too often resulted in a nick (like, right above my upper lip). Works wet (in the shower) or dry (on the plane...) The thing I noticed about traveling with the Sensotouch...is how easy it is. It's light, sturdy, and because the charge lasts for weeks of daily use I don't have to carry the charger. I am a "one bag" traveler so this really matters to me. Highly recommneded, and be sure to check newer versions too in the expanded Sensotouch family. You can't go wrong.

A Huge Surprise

My first electric was a 3 head Norelco back in the '80's, a razor I truly was unhappy with as it tore my face apart. Since then I have used 3 different Braun foil razors. I prefer to shave with my Gillette blade razors and shave cream but my skin can't handle daily shaving with this type of razor, no matter how sharp the blades. My routine has become shaving with the blade 2 days and with the electric 5 days. The Braun foil razors ( all dry only, no wet/dry razors ) were satisfactory, but never gave me the closeness of the blade razor, particularly on my neck. I often had to resort to finishing my neck with a blade razor because the Braun just couldn't cut the hair. After 3 days of shaving with the Braun, each day I would notice my facial hair was a little longer than the previous day. By the fourth day I had to use the blade razor just to start over and clean up the mess. The worst part about all 3 Braun razors was the battery. The built in rechargeable battery always failed after about 2-3 years of use. The batteries are not replaceable, which is really irritating. The razors then had to remain plugged in as they would not come up to speed fast enough if plugged in just before use. The last Braun had a cleaning tank with Braun's proprietary mix of the world's most expensive alcohol and lemon oil. A great smell, but crazy expensive. The worst part was if the thing tipped over, the alcohol leaks out and damages the finish on your furniture. The Norelco 1260X came as a Christmas gift from a kind brother in law who has done a lot of shaving research. The razor is fantastic. I have only used it twice and both times with shaving cream. This is the first razor that is as close as a blade razor.Read more ›

Great shave for an electric razor
By Adam S on February 7, 2012
I have been shaving for years with whatever Gillette's newest razor was. I was constantly upgrading and going through the razor cartridges like crazy. I have to shave everyday, and as a result my neck would get irritated and was constantly red. I have been using the SensoTouch 3D 1260x for over a month now and have been very pleased. I get a very smooth shave (my wife approves of the smoothness) and get it done faster. More importantly this razor doesn't cut up my skin and my neck has improved dramatically since. I love how nice this razor is and would recommend this to anyone!

Separating myth from fact: the best shaver after long experience
By Michael Wells Glueck on May 14, 2013
Having used electric razors for more than half a century, I've been seeking a closer and faster shave. Successive switches from older Norelco models to Remington "close as a blade" products to Braun 7 Syncro units were big steps up, but with the Braun it took lots of passes to obtain a close shave from a single cutter. Then I tried the Panasonic ES8228S, liked it at first, then found that my stubble was becoming more stubborn and wiry. I read the reviews. eHow has an article claiming that rotary shavers are designed for men with light beards who shave occasionally, while foil shavers invariably provide a smoother result. So I thought of upgrading to the fairly noisy Braun Pulsonic Series 7 dry shaver, which lacks a seal to keep liquids from damaging the motor, although Braun says it can be rinsed under running water. But then I found an attractive offer for the Philips Norelco 1260x. Some reviewers raved; others said it irritated their faces, but they seemed to be performing dry shaves. With the Panasonic I'd added Billy Jealousy silicon shaving gel, which eliminated irritation. So I bought the 1260x and used it with the gel, aware of Norelco's warning that it would take my face twenty-one days to adapt to a rotary razor before full satisfaction was obtained. But I was very happy with the very first shave: close, fast, free from irritation, and -- contrary to claims by at least one reviewer -- not spewing whiskers onto the floor in any shaving stroke or posture. The refreshing and deceptive quietness of the motor belies its power, and the large 3D head with three rotary blades is easy to tilt and very efficient. Sold! But shop around; use search engines. There are deals around on the shaver, the charging stand, the head, and even the gel.
